RUSK COUNTY, TEXAS
Trammel's Trace crossed the Sabine River at a natural crossing on top of lignite coal deposits that are beneath much of the region. This early natural crossing was used for hundreds of years before Francis Ramsdale added a ferry around 1836.
This point is where Rusk, Panola, and Harrison county meet. Trammel's Trace was named as two-thirds of the border between Rusk and Panola county when Rusk was formed in 1843.
