      <image:title>Cass County, TX - Epperson's Ferry Historical Marker</image:title>
<image:caption>Epperson's Ferry is one of several major ferry crossings on Trammel's Trace. This marker was originally on the banks of the Sulphur River where the ferry crossed. When Wright Patman Lake was built, the Corps of Engineers acquired the land and the marker was moved, thinking the lake might be inundate the crossing. It did not, but the crossing is about a mile into the woods. So here it is...on the highway.</image:caption>

<image:caption>This simple little redrawing of the Daniel Barecroft survey in northwestern Cass County has a lot of important information. It is where Trammel's Trace from Pecan Point (Spanish Trace) joined up with Trammel's Trace from Fulton. The measurements showing where the road crossed each boundary is in varas. . . a Spanish measurement equal to 33 1/3".</image:caption>

<image:title>Rusk County, TX - The First Farm to Market Road, 1937</image:title>
<image:caption>I have a saying, "Roads follow roads." Old roads went they way they did for simple reasons around the terrain, the soil, and the elevation. Later roads, before the advent of giant earthmover did the same. This roadway between Shiloh Cemetery and our family land off Hwy 315 looks this way because is was the first farm to market road in the state in 1937. The state paved 5.8 miles between Shiloh and Mt. Enterprise as a "feeder" road. My great-grandfather helped string the telephone wires and a neighbor's father made 30 cents an hour digging up stumps.</image:caption>
